Have you heard the news? “The Martial Arts Kid,” filmed here in our home territory – Florida’s Space Coast – will be featured at this year’s Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival. Directed by Michael Baumgarten, the family-friendly film has an anti-bullying theme. It stars Jansen Panettiere, Cynthia Rothrock, Kathryn Newton and Don “The Dragon” Wilson, who’s expected to be at MIFF. You’ll likely see several familiar faces in the film if you’re from Brevard County, which provided many of the extras. Florida Today writes more here.
Dynamic Duos deadline
Meanwhile, the deadline is approaching for submissions to our special “Dynamic Duos” competition. We’re asking filmmakers to produce a short film (3 to 5 minutes) that is silent. These short silent films must be submitted to the MIFF by Aug. 1. A team of judges will select the best six entries, and these films will be paired with musical composers who will score the music for the film. The dynamic duos (film director/film composer) will finish the project and present the music to the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, and the film and its orchestration will be performed live under the direction of conductor Aaron Collins at the MIFF on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The Dynamic Duos presentation will be part of an incredible film-oriented musical program performed that day.
The silent film contest is open to all filmmakers, and there is no entry fee. Send your entries to:
